Philanthropy

The Beta Eta chapter of Alpha Sigma Tau is associated with many philanthropic outreaches. In the month of October we host Pink Week, where we have events on campus to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer. Alpha Sigma Tau's national philanthropy is Pine Mountain Settlement School. It provides educational outreach services to the poverty stricken Appalachian community. Our national service project is Habitat for Humanity. An organization that creates houses for those less fourtunate. We also take part in Adopt a Highway, where we go and clean our local highways. Through these organizations we are able to give back to our fantastic commnuity!

Breast Cancer Awareness
In the month of October we come together to raise awareness about Breast Cancer, through our Pink Week. Throughout this week we host events to get students involved! We host events called Pink Hair for Hope, and a volleyball tournament called Bumps for Humps, as well a bake sale. But, it doesn't stop there, every year we work to come up with new ideas for fundraising for such a righteous cause.

Habitat for Humanity
At Alpha Sigma Tau’s National Convention in June 2004, Alpha Sigma Tau expanded its horizons and officially adopted Habitat for Humanity as a National Service Project. This expansion was based on two years of research conducted by a team of sisters representing collegians, alumnae and staff. During the new member education period, the collegiate members will become educated on the mission of Habitat for Humanity and how it models our creed of contributing our share to the progress of mankind. Sisters will perform yearly working projects for their local Habitat for Humanity affiliates. In the past we have hosted a golf scramble, and grilled cheese with AST's.

Pine Mountain Settlement School
Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority supports Pine Mountain Settlement School, located in Harlan County, Kentucky, as our National Philanthropy. At its founding, Pine Mountain Settlement School was a leader in rural educational standards, such as establishing a forerunner to the now famous Head Start curriculum. Today, Pine Mountain Settlement School serves as an environmental education center and provides educational outreach services, such as summer reading camps and after-school tutoring, to the poverty stricken Appalachian community. We host our annual Pancake Breakfast where the proceeds are donated to Pine Mountain Settlement School.

Adopt a Highway
Having adopted highways in the area, we go and clean them on a regular basis. The community of Edwardsville is very important to us, and by keeping it clean we are able to give back!
